The Weimaraner is a member of the Sporting group of dogs and is considered a pointer breed. The dog has often been nicknamed the “Gray Ghost” due to its distinguishing gray steel metallic colored coat. The coloring can range from a mouse gray to one that is more silver gray. The coat is short, dense and sheds very little. The Weimaraner is a dog of high energy and it needs considerable amounts of exercise. It makes a good running partner and does well in events such as agility, obedience, and tracking. This is definitely a companion dog for families that are active and enjoy being in the outdoors hiking or walking. They are very intelligent and are easy to train. The Weimaraner averages a height at the withers of 23 to 27 inches and weighs an average of 70 to 86 pounds. Though the breed can be exuberant around children they do very well with them and often are the most protective of the smaller members of the family. This is a loyal dog that loves companionship and is a beautiful, athletic, and intelligent member of the canine world.
