We are located in Stevensville, Montana - The heart of the beautiful Bitterroot Valley.  Sierra Shibas has been producing top quality Shibas since 1988. My name is Ronna Fuller and I am owner and chief pooper scooper.  I have been involved with quality purebred dogs for over 25 years beginning with Akitas.  My kennel was the first Shiba kennel in Nevada and one of the first on the West Coast.

Sierra Shibas main goal is to produce quality Shibas for people looking for a wonderful pet and occasionally for that person looking for a top quality show dog or breeding stock.

My foundation Shibas are all first generation American bred, meaning, all these dogs' parents were imported here from Japan.  My kennel's foundation includes CH. Gento's Grizzly Bear who was the first Shiba in the USA to get his OFA Certification.  Other foundation dogs include Reno Saskurasow females, who's father Ch. Chibi has earned his R.O.M., Ch. Blue Loon's Yuki Kabuki also lives here.   His father Ch. Shogun is also a R.O.M. Shiba.  My newest stud dog is Ocean's Academy Award "Oscar" who is proving to be a top producer of nice heads and medium sized Shiba pups.

All my Shibas are AKC registered and OFA Certified on their hips.  All Sierra Shibas are sold with a contract and guarantee.   All of our breeding stock has been registered with either the Japanese Nippo Registry, Japanese Kennel Club, Shiba Club of America, or National Shiba Club of America.   All pups are now registered with the American Kennel Club.  I am a current member of the National Shiba Club of America.

I do sell occasional show and breeding dogs but my main focus is on quality pet pups for people who would love to add a Shiba to their family and who plan to spay or neuter.  Generally the pick of the litter is sold to a show home and the remaining pups are sold to pet-only homes.  Sierra Shiba pups are scattered all over the U.S. and are being loved by great families.  I ship nearly all of my pups out of state, I use the Missoula Airport, which is located approx. 40 miles from here.  I have never encountered a serious problem shipping a Shiba pup.  A "pet-only" pup is sold with a spay/neuter contract.  A breed/show quality pup is sold with a pup back or breeding back agreement.

I highly recommend that you investigate, question and learn about Shibas before you decide that they are the dog for you.   It's easy to be attracted to their wonderful looks, but you must also want an intelligent, independent and somewhat opinionated dog.  These are not poodles or lap dogs.  They are real dogs, just a smaller package.

In addition to finding the right breed you must find the right breeder.  This person should be knowledgeable and willing to answer all your questions.  If you feel uncomfortable with someone or their answers, go somewhere else.  Remember you will have a long relationship with this person in regards to your dog and you will need to feel confident this person will be available and willing to help when you need it.

Some of the best "red Flag" Shiba information which could indicated a questionable breeder from an ethical one is if they are producing a large percentage of the cream, white or any other variation of "rare colors".  Shibas should only come in red, red sesame and black and tan.   Anything else should be sold ONLY with a spay/neuter agreement.  All breeding Shibas should be OFA Certified.  All ethical breeders sell their pups with contracts and guarantees.  Ethical breeders do not have all sizes and colors available all the time.  A good breeder should be a member of the National Shiba Club and be making every effort to stay informed regarding Shiba health and information.

Regardless if you are buying a Shiba for a show dog or family pet, you should expect to have that dog around for about 12-14 years.  By doing some homework and demanding quality in the dogs and breeder, those should be 12-14 happy and healthy years for you and your Shiba.
