Present

After 35 years grooming, training and working with all breeds, and 10 years showing Standard Poodles, our dream came true.  2001 brought us our first two litters, Valentine's Day and April 20th.  We had a total of 15 that year and several are now proud parents themselves.

River Wind Line Backer (Terrell, the kind gentleman) and Windswept Willow are our newest proud parents.  Their seven babies will be available September 1, 2004 to approved show and pet homes.

Are you looking for quality and unconditional love in a Standard Poodle?  Well, you have come to the right place!!!!!

Beautiful boys and girls like me are typical at the Northup home!

Diamond's favorite time of day finds him sitting in the grass taking in the cool evening air.  He is sweet natured, intelligent and gentle, adores cats and children and really enjoys traveling in the car.

All of our puppies are born and live in our home until they graduate to their new homes.  They wake us in the morning and share each day.  We nurture them until they leave, as if they were staying with us forever.

Our Poodles possess a unique joy of life and require the finest human companionship and care.

Our Veterinarian sees all our puppies at least three times by 8 weeks.  They are groomed frequently during their babyhood and are accustomed to clipping and bathing.  River Wind puppies are accustomed to different situations.

Adult standards are occasionally available; spay/neuter contract applies.  Shipping arrangements available with all our River Wind puppies and adults.

"One of my best friends is Gaylord.... At 6 weeks old, I was running like Gaylord... fast as the wind!  Are you looking for a guy who loves horses???"

Lisa is delighted to share information on training and grooming.  Simple tricks that will help make raising your new companion as uncomplicated and enjoyable as possible.  Such as........

TIP # 1 - GIVE A COMMAND ONLY ONCE!  And only give commands when you can reach your dog until you are sure he knows what you are talking about.  Always in the beginning praise your dogs profusely when something is done correctly.  If your dog does not respond to the first command, you need to go to him or her and show your companion what you want, as you repeat the command.

An example would be "Sit".  As you are saying "Sit", push with two fingers on the hips of your dog.  If he does not sit, try again with sit as you push on his hips.  As soon as he responds correctly praise him or her quickly and with much joy.

TIP #2 - CLIP YOUR DOG'S TOENAILS AFTER THE BATH.
I learned this from a Veterinarian catalog.  A tip that has helped lots of people and pups.  The nails won't splinter and they sometimes bleed less because the nail is much softer and more pliable..... think pedicure!

Thanks for visiting River Wind Standard Poodles.  I have started using a wonderful supplement, NuVet Plus. We live at 7014 feet above sea level at the base of a 13,000 ft peak. It would seem that life was perfect, but there is always room for improvement in our life and the lives of our dogs. I found that at this altitude and semi-arid climate my dogs coats were very dry. Christmas this year NuVet Labs contacted me, I tried their product, the dogs confiscated their product and Graphic Indelible, our 11 1/2 year old Grand sire, greatly benefited from this product. I started out giving it to my puppy, David, to improve his coat, the other dogs decided they should not be required to wait, and then I thought after ordering a couple of bottles, maybe this would help Indy. Well, to be honest I was amazed overnight! I thought it would take a month or two to see a difference in him. He CLUNKS when he lies down and is a thin guy, always has been. I thought he always would be thin. Indy has never really cared about food, but this week he has taken to growling over the bowl and is able to lay down easily, he also seems to be putting on weight. Well if you have any issues with your dogs, young or old, you might want to try this supplement. I wish I had it a couple of years ago. I'll keep you posted on their progress. Enjoy your pets!! And if you try Nu Vet products let me know what you think!
