a recent litter.

Oregon Deschutes Malamutes is a small breeder on the Oregon coast, located on acreage near Florence. We have owned Malamutes for many years and have been breeding them for over twelve years. Our parent Alaskan Malamutes (all AKC registered) are black and white, red, Alaskan seal, and sable, ranging in size from 100-140 pounds. We breed for quality in temperament, color, size, and health. Our Malamutes would be considered medium-sized, since the "standard" size Malamute is around 85 pounds and some are as large as 200 pounds.

Your puppy will be well socialized, being raised with our three children and us. Prices for puppies start around $800. Puppies will have their first shots and be de-wormed and are health guaranteed for any genetic defects. In general, we sell our pups to approved homes with limited AKC registration. Very rarely, we will give full rights/registration for an additional cost. We keep a waiting list and sell our puppies first from that. We don't take deposits until we have pups "on the ground" and you have picked your puppy, because we feel this is the most up-front way to do business.

Malamutes are wonderful family dogs, often being called "Gentle Giants". They are great with kids and adults alike. Mals do well either as indoor or outdoor dogs. With their double coat, they thrive in the winter in most climates. Shedding generally happens twice a year, in the spring and fall. Frequent brushing greatly helps to keep their coats beautiful, especially when shedding. Since Alaskan Malamutes are sled dogs, their athletic bodies need lots of exercise to stay healthy. They are very intelligent but can be stubborn, so training is highly recommended.

Natona, a red female.

Kaya, an Alaskan seal female.

If you're considering owning a Malamute, consider these questions:

1. Do you have or can you obtain either a large dog kennel or a fenced backyard and do you have plenty of room at your place for a 100+ lb. dog?

2. Are you willing and do you have the time to spend doing basic training with your puppy?

3. Have you had experience with Malamutes and/or read-up on the breed and its characteristics?
Since our family of five raises and cares for our Mals, we love to place our puppies with other families. Be sure you have time to devote to your new dog, and do your homework on the breed. Then...be ready to be loved and give lots of love to your Malamute puppy.

Yukon, a gray male.
