The South African Boerboel is a big, strong dog, well balanced with good muscle development and swift in movement.  This dog should be impressive and imposing.  The Boerboel is reliable, obedient and intelligent with a strong watch dog instinct.  It is self-assured and fearless, but perceptive to the needs of the family.

Male dogs appear noticeably masculine and bitches feminine.  All parts of the body should be in proportion with each other.  The head is the most important feature of the Boerboel, as it represents its total character.
The Boerboel, the only South African bred to defend the homestead, has a long history of breeding in many different far-flung regions of South Africa.  Despite this long history of breeding, the breed’s refinement continues to date.  Regional differences, however slight, are considered part of the makeup of the breed. Kai
The Boerboel bonds quickly to his family and becomes quite attached especially to the children.  They get along well with children, protective yet gentle, seemingly aware of the child's helplessness and innocence.  Their temperament is very stable.

They enjoy being included in the family activities.  Their high level of athleticism lends itself to include such activities as bike riding, swimming, long walks, jogging, or just playing fetch.  Boerboels make excellent house or apartment dogs however keep in mind the dog requires daily exercise, a long walk or a little jogging should do nicely for both you and your dog. 
Bully & Breezie
Bully (stud) & Breezie		 The South African Boerboel is a great guard dog, extremely loyal to its family and quite aloof with strangers.  He has a very protective nature and yet is able to discern friend from foe.  He instinctively knows when to become a terrifying, defensive and protective dog for its owner, his grounds, the house and the whole family.  He should be submissive to his family and suspicious of strangers.
