An Owner's Central Asian Ovcharka Description
This is my personal abominable Snowman. When I take to the high country, Snowman is with me every step of the way. He can easily outlast me - a professional hiker! - getting up and down a mountainside.

For the past four years ,he's been with me on every trail I've blazed and on every back road I've traveled. He particularly loves our extended trips into the Canadian back country. Isolation suits Snowman just fine. He loves me and that's about as far as he cares to go with humans. He's just not a people person. No matter, since I'm the loner-type myself.

Snowman can be somewhat independent and will often wander off from camp. I don't know exactly where he goes or why, but he always returns satisfied, content to be back by the fire. Between the campfire and his warm body I never have to worry about the cold becoming too much to bear, even when the fire's died out and there's barely an ember burning. Then Snowman crawls over and presses up against my back so, blocking the wind, adding his warmth to my sleeping bag.

We once found an abandoned cabin, one room. We stayed there for about a week, until food was running low and an impending storm pushed us out. It was a pleasant old shack, tucked away in heavy pine. Priding myself as a hiker and guide, I've tried finding it twice since then, but to no avail. And Snowman isn't is a tracker, at least not in the sense that other dogs may be. Snowman just seems to know where he needs to be and the direction he needs to go in and somehow finds his way. Which means we may never find that cabin again, but we'll sure have a great time looking for it.
