An Owner's Wire Fox Terrier Description
Tell James T. to 'seek' and off he goes. After all, he is named after Captain James T. Kirk and his name means to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before!
James T. is a smart little wire-haired fox terrier. I'm a journalist and James T. is my canine companion. We're a pair of adventurers who travel around the world seeking new adventures to write about.
Whether it's taking a risk and packing up my things to drive across country to be with the guy I love, or picking up my guitar and heading up to the mountains for quiet solitude between story assignments, James T. is with me. For him, it all adds up to adventure and fun.
What inspired me about this breed of dog was that while growing up I noticed that the Wire Fox Terrier was used as the model on many pet food commercials. I'm also a fan of old, black and white films, and I just loved the character Asta in the movie The Thin Man.
What would my life be without my buddy and closest companion, James T.? Boring. I just knew that when I grew up and got established that one of the first things I would do would be to bond with a wire fox terrier. Good thing I did, too. James T. has rescued me from a life of boredom. He's helped me meet many people and make new friends. He's a warm, loving companion with spunk and drive.
Introduction
These dogs typify the ideal Terrier type. More popular than their smooth relatives, Wire Fox Terriers did not appear in show rings until the 1870s. They were fashionable in the 1930s, then went out of favor until recently when they re-emerged as a "classic" English breed. These dogs are not easy to train and can be willful. They enjoy digging, one of the instinctive traits of this breed. They are good with children when raised with them from puppyhood. They weigh 13 to 20 lbs. and stand 13 to 16 inches at the shoulders. Females are smaller than males. Contact the dog breeders below for your next family friend.
Colors
The typical coloring for the Wire Fox Terrier is white with black or brown markings.Living Area
The Wire Fox Terrier can live in either a house or an apartment style environment. They are quite active indoor animals and therefore will do fine without a yard. However, if they do live in an environment without a yard, it is important for them to be outside and obtain sufficient exercise. This could be just a long walk a day or a romp through the park. If they are living in an environment with a yard, letting them outside to run around in the yard daily is plenty of exercise. However, the Wire Fox Terrier should not be left outside alone because they are likely to bark and try to dig their way out.Recognized By
