An Owner's Pembroke Welsh Corgi Description
You may wonder how in the world my dog Speedbump got his name. The first time I saw this little dog running through the parking lot, I knew what I would call him. Every time he tried to run over one of those speed bumps he'd bottom out and take a tumble. He'd gather himself up and take off toward his destination again, only to be slowed down by the next speed bump.

Speedbump has trouble getting over things that are higher than his belly. But he's a tough cookie and never gets discouraged or gives up. Even though he is physically challenged he continues to amaze me with his ingenuity. Like most of us that are a bit shorter, he compensates with his intelligence, and by learning how to improvise. That's why we invented ladders: to reach things that are too high. Speedbump looks for anything he can jump up on to make himself taller and make the task achievable.

One of the things I like about this dog of mine is the determination he has to complete whatever the task is. Obedience for him is paramount to his personal success. If I ask him to retrieve a ball I've thrown and it goes into the thickets, he'll force his way in so as to find it and bring it back to me. And if asked, he'll do it all over again. And again. Failure is not in his vocabulary.

No matter how short he is or how close his little belly is to the ground, I always tell people that his legs are long enough to reach the ground and that's all that matters.
