An Owner's Standard Schnauzer Description
With his show days behind him, Tiki is resolved to enjoying a less strenuous and stressful lifestyle. He still enjoys the groomer and attention he receives but now he is a stay-at-home champion and can bask in the glory he once enjoyed.

He has plenty of ribbons and trophies to show off, not to mention the trunk full of photos that we will occasionally go through. It was a great career but all stars must eventually step aside for the next generation and that is what Tiki has done. Of course, he doesn't wallow in self-pity and still considers himself to be top-gun. He has since sired several promising stars to carry on his legacy.

But for us, we now can enjoy him in a whole new way. For the first year of retirement he definitely carried himself with a sort of cocky attitude. Now that the reality of "no more shows" has set in for him, we are able to view him as just one of the gang. A whole new personality has emerged and he is much more of the entertainer versus the showman. The show Tiki, was more rigid and precise with his act. The entertainer Tiki, is more relaxed and a bit more of a risk taker when it comes to displaying his antics. For me to have been a part of both sides of this wonderful little dog has been quite a privilege and memorable adventure.

I enjoy the trophies and ribbons as much as anyone, but for me, Tiki will always be what I treasure the most: a true Champion.

 

 

Introduction

This German native of some 500 years, the Standard is the original Schnauzer from which all other Schnauzer breeds were developed. This breed stands an average of 19 inches at the shoulder and has a hard, wiry coat. Above average grooming is required. The Standard Schnauzer makes an excellent family dog and loves to get a lot of exercise.

Indoor with regular exercise and a large fenced yard if possible.
