An Owner's Skye Terrier Description
There is a certain amount of mysteriousness in the face of a cat. You just never really know what's on their mind. Whether they wear a diamond collar and live in a penthouse or are stalking prey in some dirty back alley, they have a way of conjuring up thoughts of adventure and romance.
Yeah, I hear you. "Hey, I thought this was about your dog!"
It is, trust me.
Where's the mystery in the face of a dog? You always know what a dog is thinking. "Come play, come play with me!". Their intentions seem to be more from instinctual joy than from contemplation or careful planning. I don't place them below the cat in intelligence; not at all. In fact, in spite of the lack of mystery in their expressions, dogs, particularly, my dog Skat, display tons more personality and smarts than most cats I've met. That's probably why cats have nine lives; they'll need that many because of the silly mistakes they make.
I'll take Skat's loyalty and companionship over a cat's moodiness any day of the week. When I say that cats have such a mysterious look, I mean it's a mystery as to why they have no facial expression to reveal how they feel, unlike Skat my dog. And when I said that they have a romantic adventure tied to all of their escapades, I meant that we tend to give that much to the cat because he romances danger constantly, which doesn't necessarily speak well of his intelligence. Okay, don't write and bash me because it sounds like I don't like cats: I do, I have three of them right here. They all belong to the neighbors, but jump the fence so that my dog, Skat, can chase them away.
Introduction
This breed originated in Scotland in the 1500s, making it one of the oldest terrier breeds. The Skye Terrier became well known throughout England and the U. S. by the early 1900s. They were used for hunting otters, badgers and weasel and are fearless, sturdy, well tempered and intelligent little animals. Skye Terriers stand up to 10 inches at the shoulder and have a long coarse coat which requires some grooming. Exercise is minimal which makes it an excellent companion for city folk. They make great watchdogs and are loyal companions and rambunctious playmates for their family.
Colors
Blue, Black, gray, fawn, silver, or cream with black muzzle, ears, and tail tip, preferably.Living Area
With its high activity level, you would think this was a dog that needed to have a lot of space to run around, but the short legs of the Skye Terrier actually make it a perfect breed for apartment or home living. They will easily get enough exercise just by running from room to room and in taking regular walks with you.A yard isn't necessarily for this particular breed, and if you live in the city, the Skye Terrier will still do quite well with proper care.Recognized By
