An Owner's Shiba Inu Description
When you've grown up out in the country, the city can be an intimidating place to live at first. There's a certain coldness just from the difference in material surroundings. Instead of trees and rolling hills, asphalt streets and concrete walks reflect glass buildings that soar up to create the skyline. Farming just doesn't provide for the next generation the way it once did. Now it's college studies for me and my brothers, because a degree will translate into corporate jobs, the kind that are found in the city. I loved growing up in the country, and sometimes I wish there was some way to return to the farm.

I wonder if Sinbad, my trusty companion, has similar feelings? Winsome flashes of the past, of times when he ran free, without leashes ? fences to hamper him. Does he dream of snow covered trails? Does he yearn to hunt as he was bred to do? To chase his prey the way his ancestors once did? I wonder. Or is it just me, anthropomorphizing?

He seems content waiting in our medium-size condo until I come home around seven at night. He looks forward to the 20-minute walk along the busy thoroughfare, because that's how we get to the park. Is he eager to romp in the grass of the crowded city park? Does that satisfy him enough so that when we return home, he feels that life is good? I watch him run and I hope the answer is yes.

I look into Sinbad's eyes for answers but he hides them well. He pretends he doesn't know the difference between then and now, but I know he knows. I took him with me for a ride in the country not too long ago, and I set him free. He ran and sniffed and climbed the hillside to see what he could see. His wagging tail gave away the emotions that he felt inside. He would have gladly stayed longer if only I could have stayed too. Instead, he eagerly ran down to join me getting back into the car, to head home to the city.

Introduction

The Shiba Inu dogs have existed for centuries in Central Japan where they were used for hunting small animals. This Spitz breed stands an average of 15 inches at the shoulder. Contact the dog breeders below for your next family friend.

Colors

Variety of colors- red, or red with a little black overlay, or black with tan markings being the most common. In general, the dog should have white or cream-colored markings on the cheeks and sides of the muzzle, throat, underside and chest.

Living Area

The Shiba is a hearty dog for its size and will do well in many different circumstances and settings. It is well suited for apartment living as long as it gets the exercise that it needs out of doors. Because of it quiet nature, many apartments allow this type of animal. Another benefit is that the breed is very clean and is easy to housebreak. They are not an excitable breed by nature but they will alert the owner if someone comes to the home. While the Shiba will do well in small quarters it is always better if it has a large area to exerciser and play in, such as a back yard. The animal will often play and run by itself when it has the room to do so. This breed loves to be a part of the family so it will play with just about anyone who plays with it. This breed is not a good choice if it is planned to have it live outside. It does much better living inside the home with the family and may become despondent and unhappy if left outdoors for long periods of time. If left outdoors for any amount of time, it should be kept in a fenced yard. This animal may run off if something interests it.It can live happily in both hot and cold climates.
