An Owner's Olde English Bulldogge Description
We looked far and wide for this breed, and we only checked out reputable breeders. Finally, through a referral we found one that we trusted and felt comfortable with, and their dogs were absolutely incredible.
After deliberating for quite some time, we brought Smudge home.
He's an excellent family pet and he absolutely loves our children. His special fondness for them is seen by the way he plays with them, and the way they are practically inseparable. Smudge can hardly pull himself away from the kids even long enough to eat! He'll grab a quick bite in his mouth, then run back to where they're playing. He chews that bite up while he watches the kids, then takes off as fast as he can for another bite in the kitchen. Brings it back, eats it and repeats this process over and over until all the food is gone from his dish.
He is a happy dog and truly loves to be around people. If the kids aren't home, he'll settle for Dad or Grandma. He senses our moods and knows when it's okay to play and when he better just lay still. I thought this was absolutely amazing, but I heard this is common for the Old English breed.
As with any dog, Smudge needs his daily activities to fully develop without any health issues. He's nearly four years old now and he's extremely healthy and fit. We attribute that to the breeding line, superior food, lots of exercise and unlimited love. One thing that Smudge isn't is lazy. He likes to play and go to the park every chance he gets. He's a courageous and devoted little dog and will stand up to just about any threats to family security, whether against himself or one of us.
That search for a good and trustworthy breeder was certainly worth it in the long run.
