An Owner's Norwegain Lundehund Description
Just because my dog has six toes and can bend his head backward over his spine, people tend to think he's weird. Okay, he is weird, but not for those reasons. All Norwegian Lundehunds are flexible in ways other dogs just aren't. Like Kando can bend his arms like I bend mine, which amazes people. Kando's weirdness shows itself in his personality and personal tastes. For instance, have you ever known a dog that will snub people-food for bagged dog food? He'll hardly even smell something that came off the table, much less eat it. But he goes absolutely zonkers over Gravy Train.
His vet seems to think this may have to do with some sort of digestive disorder; I think it's one aspect of his weirdness. Kando has other quirks that make him a pretty unique individual, that's for sure. He just loves to climb trees. He'll follow our cat up one of our oaks and the two will share a branch and actually fall asleep in the tree. So far we haven't seen him fall. His six toes give him an advantage holding on, and that's about the first of his kind being bred to hunt Puffins and their eggs. Handy to have extra toes if you have to scale rocks looking for bird nests.
I guess the weirdest thing I've seen from Kando is how he drinks his water. It has to be from a very deep bowl and I'll tell you why. He sticks his nose to the bottom and blows bubbles. He'll step back and watch the bubbles float to the top and pop, then he repeats this a couple of more times before he finally takes a good drink. Maybe it's not weird but it's sure entertaining.
Kando is quite a character to be around. It's not as though he's trying to get attention or entertain us, he just has behaviors that are just plain weird.
