An Owner's Norwegain Buhund Description
As a breed, Norwegian Buhunds are energetic dogs. If you take that energy and throw in a little attitude you'll be looking at our dog Bundy, especially if you add some courage and cuteness because he's got those, too.
Bundy keeps us going. He gets us up in the morning and keeps us going with his antics throughout the day. He makes sure we don't sit too long at any one time. And Bundy will do whatever it takes to participate in any activity we undertake. He'll bring us the Frisbee to play with; if that doesn't work he'll lie and act as if he needs to go outside to potty, only to go out and immediately come right back in if we don't go out with him. If we do follow him out, he just wants to play.
Because of his persistence in getting us up and out, there are times he can be more than a bit annoying. It's a good thing we put him through a complete obedience training course when he was a pup. I'd hate to see what life would be like if we hadn't and can't recommend it strongly enough. You will be dealing with a highly energetic dog and obdience is mandatory if you're going to enjoy living with a Norwegian Buhund. Bundy is obedient but not without some persistence and continued reinforcement from both of us. Sometimes, he'll act as if he is deaf when he's not in the mood to listen. He definitely has a mind of his own. Once he has the idea of getting something or going somewhere or engaging in some play, all other things must wait. He is driven to succeed in his desires, which makes him really fun to be around. And he makes up for a lot with his great personality and fun-loving attitude.
It's his, 'put it in high gear'-'don't have time to waste'-perspective on life that keeps him in the forefront of whatever plans we make. No matter what we plan to do, Bundy will play in a role somehow. He'll make sure of that.
Introduction
The Buhund is one of the earliest known Nordic herding types. Originally this breed was used in Scandinavian countries as a herding dog for cattle, sheep and horses; it doubled as an all-purpose farm dog. Males average 40 lbs and stand 17 to 18 inches, females are slightly smaller. Acceptable coat colors are wheaten, black and wolf sable with small, symmetrical white markings, and/or a black mask. These dogs are in tune with their people, communicating with various noises and body language.
Colors
Wheaton This ranges from light to yellowish red. There can be dark tipped hairs and a mask. Black Can contain white blaze, white markings on chest and ring on neck and legs.Living Area
The Norwegian Buhund does best living in a certain environment. They prefer a large fenced yard where they can spend much of their time outside. They need plenty of exercise and should live in an environment that is conducive to that. However, they will do just fine in an apartment if the owner has the capabilities to put in the effort to ensure that the dog is receiving plenty of time to exercise and run outside.Recognized By
