Introduction
For over a century McNabs have been working sheep and cattle; today they are more popular than ever with ranchers. They are a native stockdog from Mendocino County, CA. via the Grampian Hills of Scotland. In 1868, Alexander Mc Nab came to the U. S. from Glasgow, Scotland. It was here he developed his line of Mc Nab shepherds from carefully selected Border Collies. These dogs are medium sized, alert and cat-footed. Their coat is black with white markings. Their are two types, long haired and short haired. The long haired Mc Nab is adapted to the severe winters of Scotland. The short haired Mc Nab is good for the summer heat and the dry, steep ranges of Mendocino County. These dogs weigh 40 to 50 lbs. and stand 18 to 22" at the shoulders.
Colors
Black coat with white markings -- white muzzle with a white streak running up the head between the eyes, usually a white neck and chest, white tipped tail and one or more white feet.Living Area
Not recommended for apartment life, they are best on a farm or acreage where they have the room to run and exercise with their handlers. Will do fine in a kennel so long as they have lots of daily activity and exercise and see their owner a lot. This dog will not do well being chained up all day.Recognized By
