60 Developing Dog Breeds Eligible to Compete.

AKC acknowledges over 60 developing breeds at the present time. These breeds are currently eligible to compete in Companion events.

For a breed in development, record keeping is a critical function. Information must be accurately entered, beyond reproach, and permanently stored so it is available to future breeders to ensure the heritage of every dog to follow. The AKC's Foundation Stock Service provides precisely that to over 60 developing breeds today.

Although these dogs are not eligible for AKC registration, some have been authorized to compete in Companion events. The criteria for such participation includes a minimum of three generations of pedigrees recorded by the Foundation Stock Service (FSS), a national breed standard and a national club dedicated to the breed's advancement.
