Chausie Breed Description

The Chausie is a large, statuesque, good natured domestic cat with the exotic looks and beauty of a Jungle Cat. In Egypt the nickname for the Jungle Cat is 'Reed Cat', due to the fact that the Jungle Cat makes his habitat near reed beds and the wetlands of several regions from Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. In the image of the Jungle Cat, Chausies have large tufted ears, a wild looking ticked coat and stripes mostly limited to their legs, tail and face. Their long legs are patterned with black bars, as is their 3/4 to full length tail. In keeping with the look of the Jungle Cat, the Chausie has three acceptable coat colors, brown ticked in shades ranging from sandy to reddish brown, Black with Silver-tipping and Solid black. They are athletic, intelligent and are devoted companions by nature.
