Mastin Borincano - The roots are unknown, but presumably the breed emerged basically from a cross among the ancient Old English Mastiff, Fila Brasileiro, the Presa Canario, and the Fighting Dog of Cordoba. From each of his ancestors the Puerto Rican Mastiff acquired characteristics that established a large, muscular, sturdily built working dog capable of using his strength, scent, perseverance and courage to perform his duties. They are considered to be the most reliable and loyal guard dogs due to their natural desire to protect their family and their territory. The Puerto Rican Mastiff is intelligent and sensitive. Their natural aggressiveness towards strangers is surprising for a dog which is very humble and docile towards its owners. Weight: Males: 45-68 kg. (100-150 lbs), females: 41-57 kg. (90-125 lbs). Height: Males: 61-71 cm. (24-28" in), females: 56-66 cm. (22-27"in).
