The original Russian Bolonka is thought to date back to the 1800s, and may be a descendant of French lap dogs who reached Russia via Napolean and his army. Bichon type dogs, they nearly disappeared during the years of communist rule, but since the fall of the Iron Curtain, breeders have worked to save this loveable small dog. Today's Bolonka may be full sized or toy; they are available in any color EXCEPT white.
